Meet talented artist and producer NIKO BRIM from Mount Vernon, New York.
NIKO BRIM’s love for the arts and music was apparent very early in his life. At age 6 he was writing poetry and he began playing the drums at age 10. By the time he reached middle school he was writing raps and dabbling in music production. “I’m not sure how good I was, but I was definitely honing my craft!” (laughing)
It was during High School when NIKO decided to really focus on his music. He and his homie, TANK GOD (who went on to produce mega-hit “Rockstar” by Post Malone) formed their own rapper/producer duo, THE CO-MISSION. “I was only 17 yrs old. We were really young and excited about our music. We weren’t really making too much noise but we had a lot of fun learning! It was a great start and it gave me the confidence I needed to go full speed ahead.”
And from that point he went full throttle, spending countless days and nights recording and producing music. NIKO describes his sound as a fresh, new take on vintage New York Hip-Hop. “Everyone is familiar with the East Coast sound, well those elements exist in my music yet I execute them much differently. My music sounds like what I’m feeling. It can’t be explained, you just have to listen and experience the vibe.”
NIKO was raised around hip-hop, r&b and soul music and is influenced by artists from all three genres. NAS, Kendrick Lamar, Jay Z, KanyeWest, J Cole and A Tribe Called Quest are just a few of the artists that helped to shape his unique sound.
Now 21 years old, NIKO BRIM has gained experience and sharpened his pen-game. He is currently working on a few projects dropping in the near future.
“I’m always mindful that life is a marathon, not a sprint. I prefer to take my time and create amazing music. I want to spread music, love and culture. The world needs more of that. I want to inspire others to think outside of the box and not be afraid to act on those ideas. Be you!”
