VIRGIL ABLOH was an esteemed fashion designer and creative, Louis Vuitton Men’s Artistic Director and the CEO of his streetwear label Off-White. Sadly, he passed away in November of 2021 from cancer at the young age of 41, nevertheless his contribution to fashion lives on.
Before his passing, VIRGIL created an imaginative collaboration for Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection with NIKE’s most classic and best selling sneaker for over three decades since its first release in 1982, the NIKE AIR FORCE 1. Titled “DREAM SNEAKER“, the ingenious collection features 47 original bespoke Air Force 1’s, all hand-crafted using authentic Louis Vuitton insignia and materials.
Louis Vuitton and Nike “Air Force 1” by Virgil Abloh was the first time since their inception that the NIKE AF1 was crafted outside of a Nike factory. The intricate details and impeccable craftsmanship produced an ingenious collaboration with two of the most iconic brands in fashion. VIRGIL was a gifted designer known for pushing boundaries and splendidly morphing streetwear with high fashion.
A Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 by Virgil Abloh exhibition, free to the public, was held at the Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse in Brooklyn from May 1st to May 31st, 2022.
