THREE KINGS FROM QUEENS

The great borough of QUEENS, N.Y. has long been known for producing elite ballers on all levels…AAU (Amateur Athletic Union), NCAA (The National Collegiate Athletic Association), CBA (The Continental Basketball Association), USBL (The United States Basketball League), and NBA (National Basketball Association).

Kenny Anderson, Metta Sandiford-Artest (known as Ron Artest and Metta World Peace), Kenny Adeleke, Hamidou Diallo, Eric Barkley, Lamar Odom, Charlie Villanueva, Kenny Smith, Cole Anthony, Khalid Reeves, and Rafer Alston are all QUEENS natives.

In 2023, three supreme ballers turned coaches from QUEENS each made their marks on the other side of the court, lending their talents and expertise to assist the next generation of A-list ballers.

CRAIG “SPEEDY” CLAXTON from Hempstead, N.Y., and TALIEK BROWN and KIMANI YOUNG, both from LeFrak City, Queens, N.Y., are stellar athletes who played and mastered the game of basketball, grinding it out from the concrete jungle courts of N.Y.C. to the biggest and brightest stages of college and pro basketball.

SPEEDY CLAXTON, NBA champion and Head Coach of the HOFSTRA PRIDE Men’s Basketball Team led his alma mater to a CAA Regular Season Title after an 11-game winning streak! He played all four of his college years at HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY before being drafted to the NBA by the Philadelphia 76’ers. His #10 jersey was retired and he was inducted into the HOFSTRA Hall of Fame. In a full circle moment, SPEEDY was named CAA Coach of the Year for 2023 after a very successful season!

TALIEK BROWN, NCAA champion and Pro Player for the CBA and USBL is now the Assistant Coach of the IONA GAELS under legendary Head Coach RICK PITINO. In his first season with the team, TALIEK helped lead the GAELS to the First Round of the NCAA playoffs where they were bumped by his alma mater, the UCONN HUSKIES. As a HUSKY, he scored 1,039 points, handed out 722 assists winning a NCAA championship in 2004.

KIMANI YOUNG, UTEP (the University of Texas El-Paso) alum and former Assistant Coach at the University of Minnesota is now the Associate Head Coach of the UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT HUSKIES.
